Some things to think about for Saturday!

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all for a solid performance last night!  I feel that it was a great dress rehearsal for our concert on Saturday.  Below is a summary of the comments that our adjudicator made.  Please read them over and consider them carefully before our performance (anything in brackets are my comments!):

Normandy Beach:
1.  Nice start!  (yay!)
2.  Great style - make sure you match lengths in like voices.
3.  Some of the lower voices in divisi need to come out more.
4.  A little more presence in the muted trumpet line.
5.  More accent in snare drum.

Silent Hills:
1.  Nice start.  Great attention to pitch as you passed it off. (Phew!  We did it!!!)
2.  Make sure you are matching volume of like parts throughout selection and fit your sound into the lowest voice in your section.
3.  Prepare entrances like oboe with enough fast air to allow reed response.
4.  Always remember the moving parts must come through.
5.  We can start out perhaps a little louder in a smaller ensemble.  You guys can control it.
6.  Pitch goes when we lose support.
7.  Great work with nice variety.

Sleeping Place of the Stars:
1.  Great start!!  (Wow, we're really good at these starts.)
2.  Watch better so we are together in the rit..
3.  Voices must match articulations at 18.
4.  At 30,  percussion back off once clarinets come in.
5.  At 55, more trumpet
6.  Harder marimba mallets at 90
7.  More flute and clarinet at 98.
8.  136 - brass choir balance with more trumpet.

Adagio:
1.  More quarter notes in bass line.
2.  Louder and more in time clarinets.
3.  Boost volume for success of lines and spin air to the end of the phrase.
4.  Double dotted/32nd notes in line at 9.
5.  Crescendo triplet into downbeat.
6.  Great releases.
7.  Get the 32nd-eighth note-32nd rhythms together as much as possible.

Irish Party:
1.  What a party!
2.  Keep moving for entire phrase.
3.  Nice tambourine
4.  Balance in percussion was good all night.
5.  Less downbeat at 31.  Support, don't conquer.

Rehearsal Plan for March 17

Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for a fantastic rehearsal last night.  I was really pleased with the progress that we made.

Here is the plan for next Tuesday:

1.  Bobby's Blues - rehearse with Josh Davies.  I would encourage everyone to take a listen to the posted recording.

2.  Sleeping Place of the Stars - we will spend cleaning up spots and making sure our transitions are solid.

3.  Silent Hills - we will work on balance and tuning throughout the piece.

4.  Normandy Beach - we will review what we worked on the week previous to this past one.  This means we will focus on balance and dynamics.

5.  Adagio - Let's continue the great work that we did yesterday!

6.  Irish Party - see No. 5!  :)
