Rehearsal Schedule for Tuesday, November 3

Hello everyone,

Please remember that rehearsal will be extended from 7:15 to 9:45 next week. If possible, try to arrive before 7:15 so that we can begin on time.

Here's the schedule:

1. Sing-Along
2. Hymn to the Fallen
3. Royal Air Force
4. Brigadier General Stewart
5. Duke Ellington
6. On Parade
7. Eventide
8. Military Escort
9. O Canada
10. God Save the Queen

My goal is to work on the "trouble" spots for each one and then run through everything in concert order. The concert order is:

O Canada
Royal Air Force March Past
Hymn to the Fallen
On Parade
Eventide
Military Escort
(Lethbridge Legion Pipe Band)
Duke Ellington
Sing-Along
Brigadier General Stewart March
God Save the Queen

There will not be an intermission and I'm estimating that the concert will be just over an hour. Please tell your friends and family! Let's fill the Legion!

Also, I received an email from Peggy regarding our drumming/ensemble workshop. It sounds like January 15/16 will work the best for the U of L folks. Please let me know if that won't work for you.

See you next week!

Karen

Rehearsal Schedule for Tuesday, October 20

Hello everyone,

Thanks for a terrific rehearsal tonight. I really feel that things are coming together well.

Here is what I would like you to focus on for next week:

1. Practise with your tuner. See how long you can hold a note in tune and keep it steady. Try different notes, different registers and different dynamic levels. Notice what happens as you crescendo and decrescendo. Watch what happens when accent the beginning of the note or start the note very softly.

2. On Parade: Measures 1 - 38

3. Hymn to the Fallen: Listen to the recording provided on this blog. We will be rehearsing all of it.

4. Royal Air Force March Past: Measures 7 - 38 - Focus on precise articulations and exact rhythms.

5. Duke Ellington: Measures 38 - 54 - RHYTHMS!!!

6. He's Gone Away: All. Have a listen to the recording that I've linked to on this blog. Practise playing through it and seeing if you can tell where you need to bring your parts out and where you need blend into the background. Write in your own crescendoes, decrescendoes and breath marks to help you with phrasing and musicality. Make your own musical decisions!

7. Military Escort - run through

8. Eventide - 66 - end
Reminder:

Please try to arrive no later than 7:20 so that you can be warmed up, tuned and ready to play by 7:30!
